Coroner confirms body found is Peyton Riekhof; funeral set
Eyewitness News has learned from the Hamilton County Coroner's Office that the body found in a submerged SUV at Geist Reservoir is that of 18-year-old Peyton Riekhof.
Search teams found Riekhof's SUV around 4:30 Sunday afternoon, after receiving a tip from a neighbor in the Tamenend Trace neighborhood. That person told police she found tire tracks on her property, leading into the reservoir.
The Hamilton County Coroner says the cause of death is being ruled as a drowning. Fishers Police are still trying to determine why Riekhof's SUV left the roadway, went through a yard and into Geist Reservoir. Earlier reports say Peyton was "agitated" after leaving a friend's home in Geist early Thursday morning.
A public viewing for Peyton Riekhof will be held at Geist Christian Church at 12756 Promise Road in Fishers on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. A private service will be held the following day.
Riekhof, a 2013 graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School, was bound for college at Kansas University. She was last seen early Thursday morning, buying gas at a gas station at 96th and Olio Road.
Monday night, more than 200 people gathered for a vigil at Hamilton Southeastern High School to remember Riekhof. Friends and classmates say they are trying to deal with her loss.
Natalie Brown, who graduated Hamilton Southeastern the year before Peyton, said, "It's going to take a long time for them to get over it, but everyone is supporting them and that helped a lot."
