A Columbus teen was injured when he was struck by a pickup truck early Monday morning.

Jalen Lee, 13, was crossing Marr Road at Hollowell Street, near Columbus East High School, when he appears to have walked into the path of a pickup truck driven by 52-year-old Kyle McLeod. McLeod was unable to avoid the student, striking him with his vehicle.

Police say Lee was walking to the high school to catch a bus to Central Middle School, which he attends.

Lee was treated at the scene before being taken to Columbus Regional Hospital. He was later transported by helicopter to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.

Investigators cite dark conditions and rainy weather as factors in the accident. McLeod has not been cited for any violations at this point.
