Civilian employee dies in Fort Knox shooting

A fatal shooting led to a lockdown at the military base at Fort Knox in Kentucky Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesman for the base told WAVE-TV in Louisville the shooting happened in a parking lot outside of the Human Resource Command headquarters on the base around 5:40 p.m Wednesday.

An Army civilian employee was shot and later died at an area hospital. The name of the victim has not been released.

"Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence," said Chris Grey, spokesperson for the independent Army investigative agency.

The base was on a full lockdown after the report and is currently under the security alert.

Mary Trotman, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Louisville, said the bureau had dispatched two agents to the post and was assisting in the investigation.

Kentucky State Police said there is an alert to lookout for a person connected with shooting described as being a 5' 9'' tall man with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with additional information related to the shooting is asked to contact the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command at (502) 624-6332 or Fort Knox Police at (502) 624-2111.

Fort Knox is located 35 miles south of Louisville.
