City of RIchmond debates future of shuttered hospital
Public officials in Richmond are trying to determine what they can do about a former hospital that has become an eyesore despite plans for redevelopment.
The mayor of the eastern Indiana city says the property is privately owned, but officials want to be prepared because it could eventually be seized for unpaid taxes.
Spring Grove Development LLC announced plans in 2010 to develop the 60-acre former campus in four phases, starting with a $21 million investment in a student housing project set for groundbreaking last fall.
But Mayor Sally Hutton tells the Palladium-Item it's unclear why that project hasn't started and why Spring Grove is selling off four acres of land.
Reid Hospital moved in 2008 to a new $318 million complex.
