Church organizing fundraiser to pay for new bus
A fundraiser is underway at Colonial Hills Baptist Church to help purchase a new bus after a deadly crash last month.
The July 27th crash near 96th and Keystone Ave. killed three members of the church and an unborn child when the bus flipped. The victims were on their way back from church camp in Michigan.
Members of the Colonial Hills Youth Group are selling wristbands to help pay for a new bus so that children can continue to go to church camp.
The wristbands also honor those lost in the crash, including their youth pastor Chad Phelps.
We'll have more on their mission on Eyewitness News at 6:00 pm.
Indianapolis Metro Police say the release of reports into the crash will be delayed until at least next week.
Spokesman Kendale Adams said Wednesday evening that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's accident investigations unit is still gathering evidence. He says that will delay the release of a crash report and an inspection report by another week.
Driver Dennis Maurer has told police the brakes failed as the bus left Interstate 465 on Indianapolis' north side.
