Child abduction attempt stopped by neighbor

What could be more terrifying than having your child abducted right in front of you?

That's exactly what happened to a woman in Grandview, Missouri. She was watching her son play with his friends, when a strange woman grabbed him.

"I said, 'That's my son!' and she was like, 'I know, I'll bring him back,' and I said, 'Now. Put him down'," recalled mother Nicole Novotny.

That's all she could do, thought, because she is bound to a wheelchair. Thankfully, her neighbor jumped into action, chasing after the woman and getting the boy.

"Anything to get him," said Lorin Carr. "I just had to get him. It's the only thing I could think of. I had to snatch him out of her arms. Literally."

The abductor - later identified as 44-year-old Edwina Bates - was rambling wildly, and at one point held the boy over the rail of her balcony. She's being charged with child endangerment.

Novotny said she is thankful to have neighbors she can count on.
