Indianapolis Metro Police believe a gunshot that wounded a four-year-old girl in the leg Monday night may have come from a nearby neighborhood.

The girl is listed in stable but good condition after undergoing surgery at Riley Hospital for Children IU Health. She was transferred from Community East Hospital. The girl, who turns five next month, is expected to make a full recovery.

Police say she was shot in her upper leg.  The shooting apparently happened in the 4100 block of Edgemere Court.

The child's mother called dispatchers to report that her daughter was injured, but police say the gunshot wound wasn't found until medics treated the girl at the hospital.  Off-duty police working security in the neighborhood originally believed she had run into a parked car.

Detectives will analyze the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and the dispatched run type in that area. This will help them figure out if a connection exists.

Anyone having information about this incident is urged to call IMPD at Aggravated Assault Detectives at 317.327.3475 or Crime Stoppers of Indiana at 317.262.TIPS (8477). Callers may also text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
