Chatard grad Martin drafted by Cowboys in first round
The Dallas Cowboys have passed on quarterback Johnny Manziel and taken offensive tackle Zack Martin of Notre Dame with the 16th pick in the first round of the NFL draft.
Martin, an Indianapolis native, played high school football for Bishop Chatard.
The Cowboys on Thursday night picked an offensive lineman in the first round for the second year in a row. Dallas traded down a year ago and ended up with center Travis Frederick, who started all 16 games as a rookie.
The anticipation of Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones grew as Manziel stayed on the board longer than expected.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is 34 and coming off two back surgeries. But Jones has said he was happy with Romo and didn't want to invest in a rookie.
