Charges filed against club owner after birthday party shooting
Charges have been filed against the operator of an Indianapolis social club after four people were shot at the club early Sunday morning.
Nobody was seriously injured in the early Sunday morning shooting that took place at a Sweet 16 birthday party at the Soft Spot Lounge at 1913 North 46th Street.
Detectives arrested James Walker, 60, for maintaining a common nuisance, a felony. He is accused of operating the club without a proper license or permit.
According to our partners at the Indianapolis Star, police have visited the building eight times since February 2012. Those incidents include: unlicensed alcohol sales, fights, and Molotov cocktails.
Those living near the social club say they are used to seeing problems around there.
"We were walking down the street and we seen a lot of activity like sirens, colors, police cars and the works and I thought to myself, 'That's typical.' So I just ignored it," Janalya Collins said.
The court has issued a temporary restraining order, which prevents Walker from operating an unlicensed business at the above location.
