You don't always see kids celebrating the start of school, but hundreds of children were very excited Sunday to get the tools they need to learn.

It was all because of a very special athlete tight here in Indianapolis Tamika Catchings with the Indiana Fever held a back-to-school celebration. The 9th annual free event was presented by her "Catch The Stars" Foundation.

They gave away more than 500 backpacks filled with supplies to help children get ready for school.

"These kids, some of them are really in need of back-to-school supplies and backpacks and so this is an opportunity for all of us to come together and make a difference in the community," Catchings said. "When you look back and you see the faces and see the smiles that's what it's all about."

Over the past eight years, Tamika's foundation has given away more than 3,400 backpacks to Indianapolis-area children.
