Carmel police remind residents about soliciting contractors

Carmel police are reminding residents to be vigilant about door-to-door solicitors.

Chief Tim Green says more businesses are requesting solicitation permits from the city due to recent weather-related events. Home improvement companies are sending employees to homes that may have been damaged by flooding or hail in recent storms.

Police say solicitors must get the permit from the police department in order to sell in neighborhoods where it is allowed.

"These permits do not constitute an endorsement of the products these companies are selling. If you see unpermitted solicitors in your area or believe they are behaving suspiciously, please call the non-emergency dispatch number 571-2580 to report," the police department wrote in a release Wednesday.

Homeowners who have questions about the businesses or complaints about their practices are urged to contact the Better Business Bureau through their website or call their 24-hour number at (317) 488-2222 or toll free 1-866-463-9222.
