Police are investigating why a car with two children in the backseat and a shooting victim in the front crashed into a south side apartment building.

People who live in the building heard two gunshots, then a loud boom that shook the building. When they ran downstairs, they saw the car in the building and a man bleeding in the front passenger seat.

"I shut the car off, got the kids out, and everybody around here called the paramedics to help us out," said Shane Zook.

The man was shot in the face and is in critical condition. The children were not hurt.

The driver of the car fled on foot.

It happened Friday morning on Declaration Drive, which is between South Meridian And South East Street.
