California inmate charged in 1980 Terre Haute slayings
Terre Haute police say they've solved a nearly 34-year-old double homicide.
WTHI-TV and the Tribune-Star report 61-year-old California prison inmate Harry Rowley has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the July 1980 fatal shootings of 29-year-old Lucinda Farmer and 28-year-old Mary Quillen.
Documents show Rowley and his wife resided in the same apartment complex as the victims, who were roommates and Indiana State University students.
Rowley has told investigators he shot the women after he saw them leaning on his car. A few days later, he and his wife packed up and left Indiana. He told them he was sorry for killing the women and wanted to apologize to their families.
Rowley is serving a life sentence in California for an unrelated slaying.
