A group of Butler University students arrived back home today, after taking part in an "Alternative Spring Break".

The group ditched the typical beach vacation this year and instead packed their bags for New Jersey. Student volunteers headed to the storm-damaged coast to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

It's been a year and a half since the disaster but many families are still struggling to recover.

Butler University student Giana Bender said, "We love doing the work. It's kind of fun using tools and stuff, but once the families come here, it makes it that much more real."

The students worked with local relief groups like the Salvation Army to assist in the ongoing rebuilding efforts.
