Butler holds off upset-minded Franklin, 31-28
Matt Lancaster ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third to lead Butler to a come-from-behind win over Division III Franklin, 31-28, in the first game under the lights at Fraught Stadium Saturday night.
Lancaster's 1 yard run with 2:39 left put Butler (2-1) ahead for the first time, 28-21. After stopping Franklin (0-2) deep in its own territory on four downs, Jonathan Treloar added a 33-yard field goal that ultimately proved to be the game winner.
Franklin's Zack Corpe returned the Butler kickoff 88 yards to score with 27 seconds left.
Lancaster completed 24 of 33 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown and had 37 yards on nine carries, two for touchdowns.
Jonny West was 36 of 58 for 360 yards and three touchdowns to lead Franklin, but his interception in the end zone with 5:39 left and the game tied at 21-21 proved costly.
