Burger King campaign promotes "Proud Whopper"
A Burger King in San Francisco has given its trademark Whopper a different look in honor of gay pride.
Workers have been busy assembling a Whopper with a message.
Behold the gay pride themed "Proud Whopper." And, yes, it comes with a matching crown.
The burger and the crowns were unveiled during the weekend's San Francisco Gay Pride festivities, but the campaign caught fire Thursday morning on social media, after Burger King posted the video.
The viral campaign was fueled largely by Twitter.
Some see the campaign as a smart tactic, saying it works in San Francisco because it's a very diverse community.
Others see it as corporate pandering.
It goes to show that a business can skew its politics in the other direction, just like we saw with Hobby Lobby and even Chik-fil-A.
