Investigators hope an autopsy will give answers about a body found Monday on the Indianapolis' northeast side.

A worker at a nearby business found the body around 1:15 p.m. in a wooded area by an ally near 20th Street and Columbia Avenue. The body was badly decomposed, according to police, but homicide detectives said it was too early to call the death suspicious.

"Autopsy will hopefully tell us if there are obvious signs of trauma on the body," said IMPD Lt. Chris Bailey, "but the state of decomposition, I don't know if that plays a role in whether or not they can succinctly determine the cause of death or not."

Initial evidence could not confirm the age, gender or cause of death. Detectives hope the autopsy will be able to answer all of those questions.
