Body found in White River near downtown Indianapolis

Metro Police are investigating a body found in the White River Thursday night.

The body was spotted by a man near the west bank of the river near New York Street around 11 p.m.  Police and fire crews recovered the body and start their investigation.

The body is believed to be a male of unknown age. Police say the body was reportedly in the water for "more than an hour or two," but are awaiting an autopsy to try to determine exactly how long it was there and how the person died.
