Billie Joe Armstrong: warning sings of meltdown

Billie Joe Armstrong says he had some warning signs he was headed for the meltdown that led him into rehab.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine that before he got to Las Vegas, where he went off during the I Heart Radio festival, he had been taking a lot of meds to help him get to sleep. He says he and Green Day "were zigzagging everywhere" as they went from Japan to England as part of their world tour.

At one point, his manager called him in and told him the tour was over and he was going to rehab. Armstrong said he wouldn't do that - but promised to get help after the Vegas performance and other obligations. He says "It turned out I was a week ahead of schedule."
