A bicyclist was seriously injured after his bike hit a CityBus on the Purdue University campus Monday.

It happened around 11:20 am. The cyclist, 21-year-old Purdue student Andrew Fant, was heading east off Memorial Mall and the bus was northbound on Memorial Mall Drive when the bike appeared to collide with the side of the bus.

Purdue Fire Department EMTs responded and Fant was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital East.

Police say a video taken from the bus showed Fant was wearing earbuds and had his head down when he drove his bike into the side of the bus.

It was not reported if Fant was wearing a helmet or other safety equipment at the time of the crash.
