Shortly after the Chicago Bears passed over Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians for their head coaching job, NFL sources report the Arizona Cardinals have requested permission to speak to Arians.

Arians was finalist for the Bears job. But Chicago chose Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman for the post Tuesday night.

Arians served as interim head coach for the Colts this past season while head coach Chuck Pagano underwent treatment for leukemia.

The team went 9-3 under Arians, who shared the AFC Coach of the Year honor as voted by a panel of 101 sportswriters and broadcasters who regularly cover the NFL.

Arians was or is a candidate for multiple head-coaching vacancies, although at this point, Arizona is the lone remaining team showing interest.
