Ball State student reports late night attack

A Ball State student reported an attack to police early Friday morning.

The university's police department issued a public safety notice about the alleged assault, which occurred around 3 a.m. at Dicks Street and Riverside Avenue.

The male student told police he was attacked while walking home from the Village. He said two black males attacked him with some type of sharp object, possibly a box cutter. He told officers he was able to escape and the attackers left the scene.

The student was treated for facial injuries and released from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

University police encouraged students to travel in groups and be aware of their surroundings.
