Ball State alums fund student trip for NIU game

With the assistance of Ball State football alums Brady Hoke and Jason Whitlock, the Ball State athletics department is offering 200 students the chance to take a bus trip to the Cardinals football game at Northern Illinois Wednesday.

"We are very appreciative of the donations from Jason Whitlock and Brady and Laura Hoke to help us get our students to the Northern Illinois game," Ball State athletics director Bill Scholl says.  "It is an extremely generous offer and shows a great commitment to their alma maters."

The students on the trip will be provided transportation, boxed lunches and game tickets courtesy of Whitlock and the Hokes generous donation of $5,000 apiece.

These buses are in addition to the 40 spots the athletics department has reserved for the Student Rewards Program, and Whitlock has requested 25 spots be reserved for journalism students and 25 be reserved for members of the Black Student Association.  Journalism students will receive information from the department on how they can sign up for the bus, while members of the BSA can sign up through Barry Hawkins, the assistant director of student life.

All others interested in signing up for the trip can sign in at the Thursday women's volleyball match at the Student Rewards check in at Gate 3 of Worthen Arena.  There will also be a sign up beginning at 11 a.m. at The Atrium.

The buses will depart from Worthen Arena at 1 p.m. Wednesday and the bus will return immediately after the game with the estimated arrival time at 6 a.m. back in Muncie.
