Anderson officials say autopsy results show that a man found dead in his home earlier this week was beaten to death.

Madison County Coroner Marian Dunnichay said Phillips died from "multiple blunt force traumatic injuries to the face and head. He was basically beaten to death."

Sandefur said that the injuries were "so severe in nature that it made it difficult to positively identify him visually."

He was positively identified through fingerprints.

According to police, Scott C. Phillips, 57, was found in his Main Street home by officers Thursday. A concerned family member alerted police after Phillips missed a scheduled appointment. When Anderson Police officers checked on his welfare, they found him dead.

Investigators continued to collect evidence at the scene Saturday.

Police say they are still talking to and interviewing people.

Officials are unsure of a motive for the murder.
