Nearly three dozen people will have to find a new place to stay tonight after a fire broke out at an assisted living community in the 10000 block of Alliance Drive.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the attic at Worthington Place in Camby.

The fire was put out.. before spread beyond the lobby area.

All 33 residents and the staff evacuated safely after crews went inside to rescue those in wheelchairs.

"Obviously this is a little bit higher occupancy fire than what we usually deal with," said Brent Anderson, Plainfield's assistant fire chief. "It's just manpower, trying to get the people out, trying to figure out where they're going to need to go, where they're going to need to stay. That's why this was such a big event, because of the people involved in the building."

The caused significant smoke and water damage throughout the building.

The facility is working to provide its residents with a place to stay tonight.
