Ash Wednesday "On-The-Go"

Wednesday was Ash Wednesday on the Christian calendar, marking the start of the 40-day season of Lent.

Christians who couldn't get away from work to attend mass still had a way to observe the holiday in Indianapolis. Christ Church Cathedral offered what they called 'Ashes on the Go' on Monument Circle. Clergy placed ashes in the shape of a cross on the foreheads of anyone who stopped by.

"I think it's much more preferable if people can go and spend some time in a church and pray," said Dean Stephen Carlsen of Christ Church Cathedral, "but we know that some people aren't going to make it. And we want to make this, the beginning of Lent, a public event in Indianapolis."

This is the third year in a row that the church has provided the 'on-the-go' ashes.
