Metro police have arrested a 52-year-old Indianapolis man for the rape and murder of a 21-year-old woman on the east side earlier this year.

Morice Ervin was arrested Wednesday afternoon for the murder of Shannon Kleeman. Kleeman was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds in the basement of a home in the 600 block of N. Linwood Avenue on March 28.

Kleeman's sister found her body, her screams alerted neighbors, who ran to help.

"That child did not deserve that. She did not deserve what happened to her. It's just unconscionable what they did to her," neighbor Treva Bryant said in March.

Ervin has been charged with murder and rape.
