Armed robbery reported near Butler University

Butler University Police are investigating an armed robbery reported early Wednesday morning.

Police say a suspect grabbed the purse of one of the victims and pushed the victim to the ground, then fled on foot. It happened in an alley behind the 700 block of Berkley Road at around 12:19 am.

University Police and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded, but could not locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a dark-complexioned African American male, 18-20 years of age, 5'10" with skinny build, with short hair. He was wearing a red shirt, dark pants or shorts. He was armed with a silver revolver.

•Safety escorts are available from University Police 365 days a year from dusk to dawn.

• If you see the same vehicle driving past you more than once, call 911 and change directions quickly. Consider cutting through a yard, or if on campus, activating an emergency call station to notify University Police.

• Never resist handing items over to an assailant in this situation. Consider keeping an I.D. carrier with non-essential items (no money) on you to avoid losing large amounts of cash. Remember, items can be replaced.
