For the second time in less than a week the Indiana Department of Transportation has closed a southeastern Indiana highway because of sinking pavement.

INDOT said Monday it has closed State Road 262 between Dillsboro and Milton in Dearborn County because unstable soil threatens the integrity of the roadway and driver safety. The closure site is about three miles south of U.S. Route 50.

INDOT says the pavement in one lane had dropped nearly 3 inches in the past week. The closure is expected to continue through the month.

The agency last Wednesday closed a section of U.S. 52 in Franklin County for emergency repairs after the pavement had dropped more than 5 inches in spots.
