Anderson Police find missing 83-year-old man

UPDATE:  Anderson Police found George Smith, 83, at the Best Western in Anderson overnight.  He was asleep in his room with his dog and was in good condition.  He has since returned to Indianapolis with his son.

Police say he arrived in Anderson by cab earlier and went to the Holiday Express to get a room.  They were full, but he then went to the Best Western to get a room to stay.   A tip to police from the clerk at the Holiday Express helped locate Mr. Smith.

It is believed that he is suffering from a medical condition, such as early dementia.

Police and firefighters are searching for a missing man on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

George Smith, 83, was last seen walking his dog around the property at Robin Run Senior Village, a retirement community in the 5300 block of W. 62nd Street. Mr. Smith was last seen around 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Liberty Creek subdivision clubhouse, not far from Robin Run.

Crews began searching for Mr. Smith around 6:30 p.m. in the immediate area. The search area was expanded north to West 71st Street and east to Guion Road. By 10 p.m., police had scaled back the search, but are still looking for the man.

Mr. Smith was wearing a maroon t-shirt and jeans. He is a white male, 5'8" tall, 150 pounds, who is bald with white hair on the sides. He has blue eyes and wears glasses. Police say his dog is a small, white dog.

It is also believed Mr. Smith is suffering from the early stages of dementia.
