Ambulance crashes on west side

A Rural Metro ambulance carrying a patient crashed on the west side early Wednesday morning. Fortunately, the patient was not further injured and the medics aboard suffered only minor injuries.

"Roads are extremely rough and slick," said Wayne Township Fire spokesman Mike Pruitt, who responded to the scene on West 10th Street just west of Country Club Road.

The ambulance lost control on the icy street at 4:00 a.m. and nosed down into a bank of snow that had been plowed into a steep ditch.

Wayne Township emergency crews were able to extricate the patient and medics safely, and they were transported by a second ambulance for treatment.

Pruitt said icy conditions have limited response times, with crews driving 25 miles-per-hour on emergency runs.
