GARY, Ind. (WTHR) - Gary police have found a 15-year-old girl who had been reported abducted Monday.

The police department canceled the AMBER Alert that had been issued for Chastinea Reeves, then wrote on Facebook that the teenager was found safe.

Family members told told NBC Chicago Monday Reeves' mother was the victim of a violent crime and the girl had run to a relative for help. While that relative was calling 911, they say Chastinea ran out the back door and hadn't been seen since.

Gary police have so far not released details regarding the crime committed against the teen's mother.

“There’s just too many unknowns, she’s young, it’s very cold outside, we don’t believe she has any means to care for herself at this time,” said Gary police Lt. Dawn Westerfield.
