Police say a carjacking suspect was killed in a crash in Morgan County Monday.

Investigators say 29-year-old Jeff Hopson was reportedly destroying property at a residence on West Lake Shore Drive in Indianapolis. When IMPD officers arrived on the scene, Hopson fled.

Around 3:30 p.m., he allegedly carjacked a silver Buick, stabbing the driver and taking about $40 from the victim, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

About 20 minutes later, Mooresville police officers responded to a report of a silver Buick driving erratically on SR 67. Minutes later, the Buick was seen traveling south in the northbound lanes from Observatory Road, where it struck a northbound truck driven by 29-year-old Joshua Colby of Indianapolis.

The impact from that crash spun the Buick into the path of a Chevrolet van driven by Paul Sharp, 48, of Indianapolis. The van struck the Buick, ejecting Hopson, who struck his head on the passenger-side windshield support of the van, killing him.

Sharp was flown via Lifeline to an Indianapolis hospital, where he is listed in stable condition from injuries to his legs, shoulder and head. Colby was not injured in the crash.

State Road 67 was closed for an extended period of time as officers investigated the crash Monday evening.
