An "all clear" has been given after an active shooter was reported at the Fort Lee Army base in central Virginia," according to NBC News.

Officials say the base had been put on lockdown and personnel there had been told to enact active shooter protocols.

The Army says a female soldier with a gun turned the gun on herself, causing an injury, but didn't wound any others.

Early reports indicate she fired one shot.

The shooter was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and her condition is unknown.

The base is about 25 miles south of Richmond, Virginia, and about 130 miles from Washington.
