Alcohol suspected in fatal Pendleton Pike crash
Police are investigating a fatal crash on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
Officers responded to the crash on Pendleton Pike near I-465 around 8:25 p.m. Monday. The driver of a small compact car was found, suffering from extensive injuries. That man was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where he later died.
Investigators believe the driver of a white pick-up truck was traveling west on Pendleton Pike, turning to go south onto the ramp of I-465. The truck struck the compact car, which was headed east on Pendleton Pike.
Witnesses say the driver of the pick-up truck was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed before the crash. The driver and his passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Investigators suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. The driver of the pick-up truck will have his blood tested, as per procedure, and is expected to be arrested. Police have not yet determined what charges the driver may face. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the case and make a final decision on charges.
The driver of the compact car has not yet been identified.
