Police and emergency personnel are on the scene of a serious accident at the 66 mile marker of Interstate 74, at the Brownsburg exit.  Eastbound lanes of I-74 were closed during the investigation, but reopened shortly before 11:00 p.m.

Police at the scene say a semi trailer struck a vehicle traveling alongside the truck on the roadway, seriously injuring the driver.

Police are still reconstructing the accident, but they believe the semi experienced blown tire that caused it to veer suddenly into the car, which was passing the truck on the left.

The semi pushed the car into the center guardrail of the bridge over State Road 267.  The victim has not been identified, and was taken from the scene by ambulance, and is not in IU Health-Methodist Hospital in "very critical" condition.

The driver of the semi, a 48-year-old woman, has been taken for toxicology tests, which is standard procedure in fatal accidents.

INDOT expects the Interstate to be closed for several hours.  Watch Eyewitness News at 11:00 p.m. for the latest information, or check back here for updates.
