It was a birthday to remember Friday for a 7-year-old cancer patient in Rhode Island as hundreds of police officers and firefighters from as far away as Ohio reported for birthday duty.

Tyler Seddon's mother took to Facebook to share her son's simple wish for cards from officers for his birthday. What he got was so much more.

The Burrillville police department threw him a party, inviting officers from around the country to attend. He was also sworn in as an honorary officer and given his own uniform and badge.

"I think the whole world needed to see something positive in the news, and I'm glad that we're a part of it," said Rachel Seddon-Dunn, Tyler's mother.

In addition to the party, Tyler also got more than 800 birthday cards sent to him.
