6 teams in Ind. prep grid finals move up next year

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - At least six Indiana high schools will move up a class after this weekend's state football finals.

Powerhouse programs Lafayette Central Catholic and Indianapolis Scecina (both Class A), Fort Wayne Luers (2A), Indianapolis Chatard (3A), and Indianapolis Cathedral (4A) will move up because of tournament success under new state rules.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association also will create a sixth class next year for the state's largest schools, including Lawrence Central, which will compete for the Class 5A title on Saturday.

The championships start at 3:30 p.m. Friday with the Class A finals, followed by the Class 2A finals at 7 p.m. Saturday's game begin at noon with the kickoff of the Class 3A game, followed by the 4A and 5A championships.
