6 people shot overnight in Marion County
A weekend of violence continued overnight across central Indiana. Police are investigating six people shot in three different incidents.
At last check, no deaths had been confirmed but homicide detectives were called to the scene of the latest shooting just before 4:00 Sunday morning. That shooting was at 38th and Oxford where a vehicle with two passengers was shot at, injuring both the man and woman inside.
The male driver, later identified as 23-year-old Christopher Carter, continued driving to 33rd and Brouse near Keystone Avenue where he stopped to call police. When officers arrived, the female passenger, 31-year-old Carmen Caldwell, was unresponsive. At last check, she was still listed in critical condition at a local hospital. Carter was treated and released.
Carter had just finished putting gas in his car at the Clark Gas Station at 2901 East 38th Street when the suspect approached the car and started shooting as Carter drove away, according to investigators. Police have not yet identified a motive in this case.
