5 Things to know this Monday morning
IMPD OFFICER MOURNED:
The city of Indianapolis continues to mourn the death of an on-duty IMPD officer. Officer Perry Renn was killed in a shootout with a suspect Saturday night on the northeast side of town. His squad car is parked outside of the north district precinct as a working memorial. Funeral arrangements are still pending. For more on Officer Renn, go to our special section on wthr.com.
TIPTON COUNTY DEPUTY LAID TO REST:
Today, a funeral will be held for Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Calvin. He was killed when his squad car crashed on an emergency run last weekend. The service will take place at Carol High School in Flora beginning at 11. For more on details on how Deputy Calvin is being honored, read the story here.
GARY OFFICER KILLED:
The city of Gary, Indiana is also in mourning today. They too lost an officer to gunfire over the weekend. 47-year-old patrolman Jeffrey Westerfield was ambushed in his squad car. Three persons of interest have been taken into custody. Read Governor Mike Pence's statement about the three tragedies Indiana Law Enforcement agencies have suffered in the past week.
VIOLENCE IN INDY:
Police have still not named a suspect in an early Saturday morning shootout that left seven people wounded in Broad Ripple. Police did take a person of interest into custody for having a handgun without a license. See what officers are saying about the crisis they are seeing on the streets of Indianapolis.
