A three-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after being shot in the hand on the east side of Indianapolis Tuesday evening.

The shooting was reported in the 2200 block of Woodsmall Lane, near E. 21st Street and Mitthoefer Road, around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. The child was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health for treatment, but the child's condition is not known at this time.

The girl's father told police the child grabbed the gun from a couch and accidentally shot herself. The father and daughter were the only people in the home at the time of the incident.
