Three people were killed and three seriously injured in a crash involving a minivan and a combine in Tippecanoe County Wednesday.

Police say a John Deere combine driven by 36-year-old Carl McFarland of West Point did not come to a complete stop at the intersection of CR 800 South and SR 25 South around 5 p.m. Wednesday. The combine then collided in the intersection with a northbound minivan with six people inside.

Three of the minivan's occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, the other occupants were taken to two Lafayette hospitals with serious injuries. Two of those victims were later taken by helicopter to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, due to the severity of their injuries.

McFarland was not injured in the crash. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.

Police are still attempting to identify the occupants of the minivan and notify the family of those involved.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
