28 laid off at Carmel-based ChaCha

Carmel-based ChaCha is laying off more than half its employees.

ChaCha CEO Scott Jones confirmed 28 people were laid off "so that we could position the company to be immediately profitable now." The move leaves the company with just 16 employees.

Jones says one of the company's divisions, Social Reactor, was negatively impacted by algorithm changes to Google Adsense. He says other similar companies were also affected by the changes.

ChaCha is a human-guided search engine that provides free, real-time answers to questions. Jones says the layoffs will not impact that part of his business.
