16 Park fire ruled accidental
Investigators have determined that a fire that tore through a near-downtown construction site last Friday was accidental.
The fire destroyed the buildings at 16th and Broadway. The site, dubbed 16 Park, is part of an Indianapolis Housing Agency housing development for low-income families.
The Indianapolis Fire and Indianapolis Metro Police Departments, along with the ATF, concluded their joint investigation Tuesday, saying there was no indication of arson.
A team of 20 investigators between the three agencies worked for several days conducting interviews and processing the scene. Heavy equipment was brought in to move debris along with engineers to assist investigators. Accelerant dogs were utilized to search the fire scene and found nothing.
The scene has been turned over to the private sector and their investigators. They anticipate being on scene for the next several days conducting their own investigation.
