109 Speedway stores cited for Christmas alcohol sales
State excise police cited more than 100 convenience stores for the unlawful sale of alcohol on Christmas Day.
An Indiana State Excise Police officer began an investigation after she received a tip on December 26 that a Speedway store in South Bend had sold beer on Christmas Day. While the officer was investigating at the store, an employee from a different Speedway asked her if it was illegal to sell alcohol on Christmas Day, because she had also sold alcohol at her store on the holiday.
At the end of the investigation, 109 Speedway convenience stores were found to have sold alcohol on Christmas Day. Eighteen of those stores are located in Indianapolis, with several others located in central Indiana.
State law prohibits the sale of alcohol from 7 a.m. on December 25 until 3 a.m. on December 26.
Anyone with information on unlawful alcohol or tobacco sales should contact the appropriate State Excise Police district office.
