Driver hits two houses, six cars

Updated:
Indianapolis - A house and several vehicles were damaged on the city's northeast side after a woman drove into them, firefighters say.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was called to the 6500 block of Ferguson Avenue in the Broad Ripple area just after noon Wednesday. At first they thought they were dealing with a three-car accident.

When they talked to witnesses, they discovered that Mary Feeney, 80, had struck six cars, two buildings, sheared a gas meter, a fence and a large bush before stopping. No one was injured in the incident, but Metro police are looking into it.

IFD says Feeney was leaving a hair salon when she veered back towards the salon building, shearing the gas meter and striking the building. From that point, Feeney drove through a bush, hit a fence, turned her car and hit four cars on her way out of the parking lot.

Feeney then drove across Ferguson Ave. and struck DEA Inc., an architecture firm across the street. According to the report, Feeney backed up but went forward, hitting the house for a second time and striking two additional vehicles on Ferguson.

Dale Ankrom owns DEA Inc. and his desk is in the exact spot Feeney hit, but he was not home at the time.

Response units from IFD included stations 1 and 5 who are members of the Structural Collapse Rescue Team. According to Captain Scott McCarty, the "main supports to the front of the house were damaged when the car hit it. We are going to re-establish those front supports temporarily so that we can enter the house to do a secondary search."
