Indianapolis, June 26 - The People Mover is the chain that links IU Medical Center, Methodist and Riley Hospitals. It's designed to be a time saving machine, and after two years of work it is officially up and running.
The board of directors, hospital staff and Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson were among the dignitaries on hand for the inaugural run of the Clarian People Mover.
The privately funded system will transport mainly healthcare workers among the campuses of Methodist, Riley and Indiana University hospitals.
City officials consider it an example of the cutting edge technology that will further enhance the life sciences initiative.
Hospital officials say the time it will save will mean better patient care.
Saturday patients, physicians and staff will be able to begin utilizing the $40 million People Mover.
Engineers say they are still working out those minor kinks, but expect things to be running smoothly by the time Clarian workers and the public get to ride starting this Saturday.
Eventually the hope is to transport not only people by medical supplies.
The Clarian People Mover is completely automated. It runs on electricity and one train can carry 80 passengers and it will run 24-hours a day.
