Firefighter pinned under semi

Updated:

Boone County - A Jamestown firefighter is hospitalized with several injuries after he was struck by a semi-truck Friday morning.

Fred Long, 46, was struck on I-74 while he was responding to a property damage accident near the 54 mile-marker in Boone County.

Investigators say the semi-truck jackknifed as the driver was trying to avoid the accident scene.  The truck hit another car and then hit Long, pinning him under the rear axle.  Long's has a crushed pelvis, a broken leg, and multiple internal injuries.

Poor visibility prevented Lifeline Helicopter from responding, so Mr. Long was taken to Methodist Hospital by ambulance.
