Chesney concert will be first at Lucas Oil Stadium

Indianapolis - Lucas Oil Stadium will host its first ever concert this weekend. The Kenny Chesney concert has been years in the making - and now there are more tickets available.

"It is an incredible moment for us. Our first big concert and always a time that is anxious but we are absolutely certain the building will perform," said Barney Levengood," executive director for the Indiana Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium.

Chesney, the country music superstar, will do the performing. His concert will be the first concert ever at Lucas Oil Stadium. A last-minute stage design change has made a few hundred seats available for the show that otherwise was sold out minutes after it was initially announced.

"There are 9,000 seats on the floor and the way it is currently configured we are in the 50,000+ number," said Levengood.

Levengood says he believes Lucas Oil will attract concert goers from as far away as Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis and as close as South Bend and Fort Wayne. But once they get here, where do the park? Levengood says concert goers can park on the south side of the stadium or use any of the 90,000 parking spaces available downtown.

Lucas Oil Stadium also poses some challenges for the stage crews.

"You have to be bigger than life. It's a bigger venue. We are working on a whole stage that is 100 feet wide and a whole production stage of 216 feet and 80 feet tall, playing to 50,000 people," said Ed Wannebo, Chesney's stage manager.

As for the sound system? "The building has gone to some lengths to soften some of the surfaces in here we were concerned about coming in," said Wannebo.

While Kenny Chesney headlines the event, Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Gary Allan and Luke Bryan also perform.
