Woman arrested in dog abuse case

Updated:

Johnson County - A woman is facing charges in connection with animal abuse.

Dana Jones, 35, first reported finding a severely injured dog under her car. Now police say Jones is actually the dog's owner. Authorities say they received tips saying Jones was responsible for the dog's injuries.

Jones admitted to leaving a harness (no-jump collar) on the dog for an extended period. The harness cut into the animal's skin.

Edingburgh Police arrested Jones Wednesday morning, but she was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail because she had taken the dog to her boyfriend's house in that county, according to police.

Jones is booked on two counts of animal cruelty in Bartholomew County and obstruction of justice in Johnson County.

She was released on $750 bond.

The playful 7-month-old puppy, nicknamed Benjamin by the staff at Animal Control, is now on the mend.
